2020 was one of the most difficult years for the modern humanity. The health crisis caused by Covid 19 did not leave any industry or any area of our lives unaffected. One of the most affected industries was music, with bands unable to tour and support their music live. So, many bands, one of which the British PARADISE LOST, both for financial reasons but also for the feeling of the concert and the contact with their fans, gave some online concerts which were later released as live albums.
This is exactly what the new “At The Mill” is. A live album released by the Shadowkings, which takes its name from the club where their online concert took place and was recorded in the band’s hometown, Yorkshire, England, on November 5, 2020. “At The Mill”, is the seventh live album of LOST and contains sixteen songs, while in addition to the permanent and unchanging composition of the band since its inception, on the drums we find Waltteri Väyrynen who was behind from the drums and to the last complete album of the band that was also released in 2020, “Obsidian”.
The new live album starts with “Widow”, from their iconic album “Icon”, while the British cover most of their discography, playing songs from eleven of their sixteen studio albums, with the exception of their debut “Lost Paradise”, “Believe In Nothing”, “Symbol Of Life”, “Paradise Lost” and “Tragic Idol”, while, as expected, its honorary has their last work with three songs, with “Fall From Grace”,” Ghosts” and “Darker Thoughts”, which closes the concert.
The band presents their songs in a very beautiful way, the sound is admittedly very good and LOST are in shape, but, despite the above, since we are talking about a live release, what is missing is perhaps its main feature. The audience. As a result, there is a cold atmosphere, which this time is not only due to the melancholy of the songs of this great band.
“At The Mill”, is a very interesting album, a flashback to the history of PARADISE LOST. Maybe a live “best of”. But if anything will keep it in history, it is the period and the reason it was recorded, a memory of a difficult period.
