As every year, also this year at THE GALLERY we organized our contest concerning the best Extreme Metal albums of the year that has passed (including Thrash/Death/.Black Metal and all their sub-genres), as voted by the readers and the editors of our web-magazine! 125 metalheads took part by listing their top 12 albums of 2023. Plenty of prices for another year, with 85 metal objects offered to the winners, all sponsored by bands and friends of our page!
΅We move on to the results….
The first place concerning the Best Extreme Metal album for 2023 was given to the Greeks VARATHRON for the album “The Crimson Temple” which collected 454 points! This particular first place may be a surprise for many, but it should be noted that VARATHRON from Ioannina city (founded in 1988), is one of the oldest and most active bands in Greece concerning the Extreme Metal sound, giving high quality releases since the beginning of its existence! We congratulate the band for the first place, giving a rendezvous at their live shows on February 10th and 11th, 2024, in Athens and Thessaloniki respectively! With a small difference in points, the second place was taken by an equally important and hard-working band from Greece, dominant in the domestic Doom/Death Metal scene. We are of course talking about ON THORNS I LAY who, with their self-titled new album, collected 444 points! Congratulations! Third place for INSOMNIUM with the album “Anno 1696” and 390 points, Guarantee in the dark and melodic Death Metal! MARDUK and OBITUARY complete the top five, with also important releases!
A big “thank you” to everyone, both those of you who took the time to complete your lists and join our contest, and also to the readers and the bands who generously and wholeheartedly offered their prizes for the lucky winners! YOU all contributed to the completion of one of the biggest Metal give-away in the WORLD for the second year in a row!
