NIGHTSTALKER is a true Rock with songs that speak directly to your soul. Their characteristic feature, since the early 90’s, when things were difficult for the Greek discography, was that they were already “the veterans”, always led by their singer Argyris. I will never forget when I first saw them live in Thessaloniki (somewhere in 97΄-98΄) in a club called “Boat” (it was a real boat!), how much I was impressed by their immediacy. Also having Andreas Lagios (ex-ROTTING CHRIST) on their bass line, I get the nod to say that over the years NIGHTSTALKER have become the ambassadors of the Greek Stoner Rock scene, similar to what ROTTING CHRIST have been for the Greek Black Metal. They have gained unlimited respect by the people through their works.
Since we’re talking about works, let’s first make this clear: NIGHTSTALKER has never had a mediocre or bad record. So here we are again, listening to a genuine and rich of emotions album. Where to start from? The fast-paced, groove-filled “Black Cloud,” or “Sweet Knife” with the incredible Sabbath-ish bass and drumming, or maybe “Sad Side Of The City”, that sounds as if ARCTIC MONKEYS were high on acid and had a bastard child with MONSTER MAGNET. Two songs that are necessary for any upcoming concert with their incredibly catchy choruses and their simplistic lyrics, reflecting everyday life, making you push the repeat button on your playlist over and over. In addition, the psychedelics of “Seven Out Of Ten”, “Cursed”, “Half Crazy”, and “Hole in the Mirror” bring you to redemption, which lead to the last, same titled song, with the amazing guitar solos, completely sending us to space together with MONSTER MAGNET, HAWKWIND and BLACK SABBATH vibes.
“Great Hallucinations” is exactly what its title suggests: a “big illusion” of a “traveling” and melancholic album, which speaks directly to your mind. In terms of sound, the album remains true and well recorded in the studio of the fellow band 1000MODS and we would say that it is the natural continuation of their previous album, “As Above, So Below” of 2016 even in terms of the aesthetics of the cover. An album that you want to listen from the beginning to the end all day long! The “old men” once again managed to make it, so well done!
