As we are patiently waiting for VARATHRON’s next album, the band thought to fill the gap with a small gift, releasing a new compilation split with German Black Metallers UNGOD. There is no need to make a special introduction about VARATHRON so let’s say two things about UNGOD. The band was formed in 1991 and until now they have released three full length albums and several splits and EPs. Also, you might meet them as BAXAXAX (those who are into the underground Black Metal will understand what I mean…).
“Apocalyptic Mysticism” includes two compositions, one from each band. VARATHRON participates with “The Mystic Papyrous”, a magnificent composition written in 1993, edited in 2016 and the final result released in 2022. It’s an amazing song based on the classic quality style of VARATHRON, which starts with an ancient Greek ritualistic atmosphere and continues combining melody with rawness, a trademark of the Greek Black Metal sound. UNGOD participates with “Sinister Forms of Fallen Stars”, a typical Black Metal song of the German scene with influences from Norway.
“Apocalyptic Mysticism” whets our appetite and increases our expectations for the upcoming work of VARATHRON, while the acquisition of this release is worth it just for their participation, as UNGOD have nothing special to offer.
