So, the time for the Greek Black Metallers VARATHRON has finally come (after thirty years of existence), to release the first ever live album! It was recorded during the band’s last live performance, as part of the “30 Years Of Darkness Tour”, on August 24, 2019 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The setlist includes some of the most important songs in VARATHRON’s large discography, with the classic album “His Majesty At The Swamp” presented live in its entirely.
The Black Metal mystagogue begins, in apotheosis from the Brazilian fans, with ” Cultum Deus Aeternum” intro. It goes on with “Ouroboros Dweller”, “Tenebrous”, “Saturnian Sect” from the very good “Patriarchs of Evil” (2018) and “Cassiopeia’s Ode”, one of VARATHRON’s best songs from the beloved record “Walpurgisnacht”! Band’s performance is impressively dynamic with the guitars hypnotizing the fans with their characteristic Greek Black Metal melodies, creating a mystical/occult atmosphere. After those songs it’s time for this evening’s highlight event. Stefan “Necroabyssious” starts shouting into the microphone “His Majesty At The Swamp” and gives the signal to start a Black Metal celebration with one of genres’ most important and historical album. It goes on with musical hymns such as “Soon Of The Moon”, with strong participation from the audience, “Unholy Funeral”, “Flowers Of My Youth” etc the amazing “His Majesty at the Swamp” in its entirety well presented by VARATHRON. “Genesis of Apocryphal Desire” from the 1990’s demo with its brutality, creates a deadly mosh pit and is the best musical epilogue. With the background music of “Transit Gloria Mundi” VARATHRON thank the audience which adores them and leave after a magical evening in which we all would like to be a part!
“Glorification Under The Latin Moon” captures perfectly not only this particular VARATHRON’s live performance but also every concert by them in general. An already classic live album which, with its perfect setlist, the amazing band’s performance and the passion of the audience, proves why the Greek Blacksters have earned a huge respect in Black Metal community over the last thirty years and they are one of the most important bands of the genre. A release that is a necessary for any record collection!
