Tore Ylwizaker, the longtime keyboardist of ULVER, passed away on the evening of August 16, 2024, on his 54th birthday. The tragic news broke today Monday, August 19th, when the band confirmed his death via a simple and moving statement expressing their deep sadness and shock at the sudden loss:
“It is with black holes in our hearts we have to inform you that our brother for over nearly thirty years, Tore Ylvisaker (Ylwizaker), is dead. He passed on in the night of 16 August, his 54th birthday. It is all too much to take in at the moment. We will return as soon as we have collected ourselves. Rest in peace, dearest friend. We love you, forever. ULVER“.
So far, the cause of Tore Ylwizaker’s death has not been determined. ULVER have asked for time to process the loss and have promised to share more when they are able.
Norwegian Tore Ylwizaker, born in 1970, joined ULVER in 1998, on the album “Themes From William Blake’s The Marriage of Heaven And Hell”, at a time when the band was evolving from its Black Metal roots to a more Avant Garde direction. Tore’s contribution, during his 20 years in ULVER, up to the 2020 album “Flowers Of Evil”, was instrumental in creating albums that have been described as landmarks in modern electronic, Ambient and Rock music. He also produced and mixed albums by IHSAHN, MAYHEM, STAR OF ASH and ARCTURUS, among others.
