Udo Dirkschneider, ex-ACCEPT, is one of the most influential frontman in rock and metal music. This year, he decided to look back at his career, honoring his 70th birthday. Not with a “best of” album but with a compilation of covers concerning 17 songs that marked his career and life.
In this album we find the goddess Tina Turner and her song “They Call it Nutbush”, the hymn “My Way” from Frank Sinatra, “Hell Bent for Leather” from the ageless JUDAS PRIEST and “We Will Rock you” from QUEEN. Also there are songs from URIAH HEEP, RAINBOW, MOTORHEAD, THE ROLLING STONES, AC/DC, SCORPIONS and many more music giants. All songs performed with the special voice of Udo and each one of them with a special meaning for him.
There is no point in rating this album. It is a collection of songs that influenced Udo heavily. It would be extremely interesting to learn the story behind every song in this album. For example, Udo had commented about “They Call It Nutbush” from Tina Turner that it was a song that ACCEPT used to play a lot during their sessions and rehearsals, just for fun. Or that “Kein Zuruck” from Wolfsheim is the first German song he has ever sung.
If I was a huge fan of ACCEPT I would definitely buy this album, since it is part of their legacy because these songs influenced them as a band. In any other case, I would just listen to it because it is interesting to listen to a new version of many important songs and realize once more how huge artist Udo is!
