The Portuguese thrashers were founded in 2015 and are trying to make a good impression with their “Hell Awaits” and “FEAR FACTORY”- like introduction, “giving space” to the listener so as to follow their beastly rage under the sounds of the opening “War Outside The Wall”! The sound on the drums is loud like a catapult. The riffs on the guitars are sharp like razors. The lyrics are socio-political as befits a Thrash band that wants to respect itself and of course uncle Chuck Billy from TESTAMENT smiles cunningly. I think THRASHWALL has TESTAMENT as an icon in their head and all their discography as a gospel for inspiration.
The whole disk pretty much moves in the same pattern. In terms of compositions, THRASHWALL’s self-titled debut sounds like the old TESTAMENT but with a sound design and production (Miguel Tereso) similar to the new albums of these THRASH METAL veterans. I would like to point out though that the solo guitar parts in several moments sound a bit “buried”. So this is a record as fast as lightning (about half an hour) and as loud as thunder, which wins the first impressions. Unfortunately, by listening to the album carefully you realize that it lacks any inspiration or originality to the point where it starts getting tired.
The first work of the Portuguese moves closely to the sphere of copying even in the title of band / record. Therefore, they should get their “identity” record by record, show their inspiration through their talents and not “imitate” with the excuse that they want to keep the old school spirit “alive”. I’m not saying this is not a good thing, but I think that as listeners we are a little “fed up” with it. However, there are good times in the album like “War Outside The Wall”, “World Domination” and “Mental Destruction”.
