Debut EP for TALETHRONE from Finland, released only in digital format, on December 20, 2019. The band was formed in 2013, so we can see that it took them about 6 years to start recording, which is not a bad thing for me personally. Let’s see what we have here …
This release consists of 4 tracks, with an average duration of 4 and a half minutes. Right from the start, the band makes clear about what they are dealing with and which paths they follow. Folkish melodies, a bit medieval I would say in and I already enjoy listening to them. Starting with the vocals, they can be characterized as harsh, not completely brutal, but not full black metal either. I think they have found the right balance. Regarding the guitars, I can hear nice lead parts and rhythm parts very well used and especially in combination with the drums, which follow these parts with double bass drums. Personally I would turn the bass down just a little bit, but because it has nice parts, it doesn’t bother me. Also I have to say here, what I’ve been seeing in recent years, that even the demos nowadays, have good productions. You might tell me that it makes sense, since now even at home you can put out really good productions. Why am I saying this? There is a simple reason for that. While this debut has a great production, we see that they are trying to maintain a bit of an old school sound. I don’t know if it was done by mistake or on purpose, but I like it.
Closing this review, I will say this: Friends of ENSIFERUM, MOONSORROW, KORPIKLAANI and the rest of the gang, invest in this EP without second thoughts. Personally I will have my ears open for TALETHRONE.
