Although this was supposed to be one of the many concerts with the same concept prepared by the Finns Melodic Doom Death Metallers SWALLOW THE SUN, Covid 19 had different plans and so their first concert in Helsinki to celebrate their twenty years and their seven completed albums so far, was to be their last.
Before we learn to watch concerts through our computer screens, the Finnish six, made sure to videotape this concert, which now they offers us, through their first live album, “20 Years Of Gloom, Beauty And Despair : Live In Helsinki ».
The album is divided into two parts. In the first part, the band in collaboration with a quartet of strings presents us in acoustic form the second part of their album “Songs From The North” of 2015. Perhaps the greatest moment is the eponymous “Songs From The North” with the recollection of the vocals by the late Aleah Stanbridge to intensify the emotion in the atmosphere. “Pray For The Winds To Come” should definitely be mentioned for its performance.
In the second part, the list of songs consists of songs that were voted by the audience and included in the concert, from the entire twenty-year career of the band, while the live closes an encore with “Here On The Black Earth”, a song that comes from SWALLOW THE SUN latest album, “When A Shadow Is Forced Into The Light” of 2019.
A very beautiful, full and satisfying live album by the Finns, emotionally charged in places and with impeccable performance by the band, which will satisfy the friends of the band and the genre.
