SVDESTADA formed in 2017 in Madrid and they introduced themselves to us in 2018 with their debut album “Yo soy el mar”, while this year they release their second full length entitled “Azabache”. Musically they move in the field of “modern” Black Metal, as their perspective on this genre includes other musical ingredients in their 33-minute new record.
The Spanish manage, with their new album, to stand out as the variety that characterizes their sound creates a charming, refreshing I would say atmosphere. Using Black Metal as the heart of their sound, they experiment by adding elements of crust and post-hardcore, externalizing band’s mood for the birth of a personal musical manifesto. Another key element of the Azabache” compositions are the emotional melodies that plunge into dark parts of the human mind, creating emotions such as nostalgia, melancholy, and loneliness. A typical example is the song “Petricor”, in which the use of accordions enhances the melancholic feeling while the vocals, as in whole record, are shocking, balancing between rage and despair.
“Azabache” is possessed by a unique aura and a refined aesthetic which along with SVDESTADA ‘s mood for musical innovation offer us an intense and quite “elaborate” album. The combination of styles, the emotion-filled melodies, the variability between ferocity and melancholy, an element that reminded me CONVERGE, reveal the creativity of SVDESTADA, giving them a musical identity capable of making them stand out from bands of the genre.
