The long-awaited solo album of Sakis Tolis, the frontman and creator of the most legendary Greek metal band ROTTING CHRIST is a fact! And its name is “Among the Fires of Hell”. The sound of this album is a mix between ROTTING CHRIST’s albums “A Dead Poem” of 1997 and “Sleep Of The Angels of 1999”, and this means several gothic references and very intense melodies. Sakis’ vocals remain as usual, having not been softened at all, except in some parts in specific songs. He played all the instruments himself, except from the drums played by Fotis Bernardo. Angelos Maniatakos helped also with the keyboards, which give a different color to each song. There are also narrations that add extra points to the final result. Recording and mixing were done at Devasoundz Studios by Fotis Bernardo, so the high quality of the sound is guaranteed!
This album is released in digital format that contains all 8 songs, but it can also be found in physical copy that is given together with the Greek Metal Hammer magazine, containing six of the songs. More specifically “Among the Fires of Hell”, “My Salvation”, “The Dawn of the New Age”, “Ad Astra” , “We… the Fallen Angels”, “The Silence”. The digital format also contains “Live with Passion (Die with Honor)” and “I Name you under our Cult” which are among the strongest of the album. All songs are of high quality, but I would like to single out “My Salvation” which once you listen to it stacks in your mind!
This album was written during the endless quarantine and it is obvious that it expresses the inner world of Sakis. Definitely with the addition of two more songs it could stand worthy as an album of ROTTING CHRIST, however I do not think that in their next album they will follow this style. Finally, I would like to add the most important thing: this record is a gift of Sakis to his fans being offered completely free, digitally but also in its physical form without any cost other than a symbolic amount for the pressing costs. Huge thumbs up and an even bigger thank you to this wonderful man and musician!
