In the 90’s, two years after the release of ROTTING CHRIST’s very successful album “A Dead Poem” and few days before the release of “Sleep of the Angels” album, the band released the EP “Der Perfekte Traum”. In 2021, was decided to release a remastered version of it, with different artwork and for the first time on vinyl. The EP includes two studio compositions and five live recorded songs from ROTTING CHRIST’s European Tour with SAMAEL and MOONSPELL.
In the two studio songs “Der Perfekte Traum” and “Moonlight”, ROTTING CHRIST has moved far away from the Greek Black Metal sound and have introduced new elements in their sound, mainly from the Gothic Metal scene. In the self-titled composition, they use for the first time German language, while the song moves in a mid-tempo rhythm with melodies and partially some influences from MOONSPELL. The second song is «catchier» and could be included in “A Dead Poem”. The remaining five songs, which have been recorded by the band’s concerts, all come from the amazing “Triarchy of the Lost Lovers” and I find it unnecessary to sit down and write about their musical value. I will just mention that the sound of the recordings is raw, giving a taste of the band’s sweeping performances at that time, but at the same time clear.
The 2021 re-release of “Der Perfekte Traum” has acquired a much more beautiful cover than that the original version of 1999. For those who do not already have it in their collection, the five live recordings of “Shadows Follow”, “Diastric Alchemy”, “A Dynasty from the Ice”, “The First Field of the Battle”, and “King of a Stellar War”, which are being performed with Jim Mutilator on bass make the purchase of this EP a must.
