ROME is not a metal band, however they are very popular and have a really good vibe and overall perception in the metal community. The band is actually Jerome Reuter’s personal band, based in Luxembourg, playing neofolk with rock and alternative elements. ROME are highly creative and productive, having released 14 studio albums in their 14 years of discography.
“Parlez-Vous Hate?” was released last year and it is one of the band’s most mature, solid and settled albums. Starting from the album’s title, and continuing in the general lyrical motif of their new album, ROME unfolds an ingenious approach, characterized by an ironic and provocative approach that remains open to different interpretations. This perspective is a trademark of Jerome Reuter, who has a deep understanding of the holistic nature of Art, and thus his pieces of art are characterized by a unique identity, where music and lyrics are “built” together and form a whole.
Musically, ROME continues to create on an atmospheric, semi-acoustic and mid-tempo basis, in a clearly more digestible and “commercial” direction compared to the previous “The Lone Furrow”. Mainly acoustic, with some electric touches, rock/metal aesthetics and the imposing atmosphere that is a dominant feature of almost every ROME recording attempt, “Parlez-Vous Hate?” is in my opinion the band’s best album since 2014’s “A Passage To Rhodesia”.
“Alesia”, “Death From Above”, “Feral Agents”, “Blood For All” and “You Owe Me A Whole World” are just so great. The album sounds very pleasant and relaxing, with an ideal duration that for this kind of music is not tiring in any way, and it exudes a variety of feelings of wild beauty. Those of you who like acoustic sounds will definitely find something of great quality in this album.
