RHAPSODY OF FIRE is an Italian Symphonic Power Metal band, one of the first in this Power Metal subspecies, known for their pompous style and ability to tell stories with epic, fantastic content, full of Knights, Dragons, forests and magic swords. “I’ll Be Your Hero” is their new EP, third in their long career and now with Giacomo Voli behind the microphone, after the departure of Fabio Lione from the band.
The EP was released on June 4 and starts with a new song, the self -titled “I’ll Be Your Hero”, which is a pleasant surprise about the course of the band itself, as it seems to be a dynamic and at the same time melodic song, which is somewhat reminiscent of the glorious past of the band, which in recent years seems to have lost the enthusiasm and originality that characterized them. The following track is the re-recording of “Where Dragons Fly”, in which the Italians have given a more melodic tone. A well-known and good song by RHAPSODY OF FIRE, who are successfully remaking themselves. The next two songs are live performances of “Rain of Fury” and “The Courage to Forgive” from 2019, in which we just notice the difference in the voice of Giacomo Voli, which is definitely not bad, but does not have such a distinct identity as Fabio’s. The last four songs are essentially the same song, performed in four different languages (English, Italian, Spanish and French). It is the ballad of the EP, which has the characteristic narrative and traveling style of RHAPSODY in such songs.
Without being something special, the EP raises some expectations for the new album expected to be released later this year, leaving us hope for a pleasant surprise from this much-loved band.
