The cause of death of the former IRON MAIDEN’s singer Paul Di’Anno has been revealed by his family! Specifically, on Monday, November 11th, 2024, members of Paul Di’Anno’s family published on his Facebook page that he passed away at his home in Salisbury (England), due to a rupture in the pericardium, which led to a heart attack. The page administrators specifically noted:

“We have received permission from Paul’s family to share the cause of his passing following the autopsy results. His sisters, Cheryl and Michelle, confirmed the following: ‘Essentially, there was a rupture in the pericardium, which filled with blood from the main artery of the aorta, causing the heart to stop. Paul’s death was immediate and, hopefully, painless. May he rest in peace.’”

We hypothesize that the musician’s death came from a -type A- aortic dissection, which caused a hemopericardium by applying pressure and disrupting the conductivity of the myocardium, resulting in a heart attack.

On the weekend of November 9 and 10, 2024, Di’Anno’s friends and family organized a memorial event in his honor at the Underworld club in London. The related post on his page included the following caption:

“With a wonderful music program, his musical collaborators bade him farewell with dignity.”

Paul Di’Anno had been suffering from severe health issues in recent years, which forced him to appear in a wheelchair. Despite the difficulties, he continued to perform worldwide, having made over 100 appearances since 2023, even though he had announced his retirement in 2020.

His former bandmate, Steve Harris, and the current IRON MAIDEN singer, Bruce Dickinson, paid tribute to the influential metal singer, with Bruce Dickinson mentioning Paul Di’Anno during an IRON MAIDEN concert in Minnesota just a few days later.

Di’Anno joined IRON MAIDEN in 1978, singing on their first two albums, including the 1979 EP “The Roundhouse Tapes” and their self-titled album in 1980, which brought them to the forefront of the new wave of British Heavy metal.
