There are some bands that, as the years pass, they are getting better and better without showing any slump. A typical example of a band like that is the British NAPALM DEATH, who, although they are in the fourth decade of their career, continue unscathed with excellent releases. With their name now interwoven with quality, they are showing the younger bands how the ball is played. Now they returned, two years after the very good album “Throes of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism”, with a new EP entitled “Resentment Is Always Seismic – A Final Throw of Throes”.
This new release by the British consists of a total of eight compositions, also including two cover songs, lasting in total almost half an hour, constituting a fairly satisfying package. Musically we meet NAPALM DEATH’s recent classical style, with the addition of influences from different musical genres. “Narcissus”, “By Proxy”, “Man Bites Dogged” and “Slaver Through a Repeat Performance” are four furious compositions where Death/ Grind Metal is mixed with Hardcore / Punk while in the last two of them we hear influences by MOTORHEAD and GODFLESH respectively.
Regarding the two covers, the first is the “Don’t Need It”, a song by BAD BRAINS that lasts a minute, reminding us of the ND’s “Suffer The Children” era. The second is about “People Pie” by SLAB!, an Industrial/Alternative Rock band, through which we understand where the British took the stimulus for the experimentation on “Fear, Emptiness, Despair” and “Diatribes” albums. The final result reminds me of MINISTRY and ROB ZOMBIE. In similar musical paths walks the “Resentment Is Always Seismic (Dark Sky Burial Dirge)”, which throws the curtain of the EP and is influenced by DARK SKY BURIAL, the new Electro Project by NAPALM DEATH’s bassist Shane Embury.
“Resentment Is Always Seismic – A Final Throw of Throes” is another quality and dynamic addition to the huge discography of the British, who respect their fans by offering a decent package with great compositions, musical variety, flawless production and a paranoiac Mark “Barney” Greenway in vocals. Once again NAPALM DEATH forces us to bow to their remarkable talent and express our respect to them.
