METALLICA have unveiled an official music video for mew single “Screaming Suicide”, directed by Tim Saccenti. The track is taken from the band’s 12th studio album, “72 Seasons”, due for release on April 14th via the band’s own Blackened Recordings. Produced by Greg Fidelman with METALLICA’s James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich, and clocking in at over 77 minutes, the 12-track “72 Seasons” is METALLICA’s first full-length collection of new material since 2016’s “Hardwired…To Self-Destruct”.
The band comments: “We’re back with another taste from ’72 Seasons’, the new album coming out on April 14. ‘Screaming Suicide’, the second track we’re releasing in advance, is now available to stream and download and as an instant grat with all album pre-orders.”
Adds METALLICA frontman James Hetfield: ” ‘Screaming Suicide’ addresses the taboo word of suicide. The intention is to communicate about the darkness we feel inside. It’s ridiculous to think we should deny that we have these thoughts. At one point or another, I believe most people have thought about it. To face it is to speak the unspoken. If it’s a human experience, we should be able to talk about it. You are not alone.”
Regarding the “Screaming Suicide” music video, METALLICA said: “We first worked with Tim on ‘Lux Æterna’ and were so blown away that we asked him to come back for round two.”
On the concept behind the album title, James Hetfield says: “72 seasons. The first 18 years of our lives that form our true or false selves. The concept that we were told ‘who we are’ by our parents. A possible pigeonholing around what kind of personality we are. I think the most interesting part of this is the continued study of those core beliefs and how it affects our perception of the world today. Much of our adult experience is reenactment or reaction to these childhood experiences. Prisoners of childhood or breaking free of those bondages we carry.”
