About the Swiss cult Death / Thrash Metallers MESSIAH we’ve talked quite recently, due to the release of their EP “Fatal Grotesque Symbols – Darken Universe”. Now we will deal with them again, talking about their new effort entitled “Fracmont”. So, this is the first full length album from the Swiss after “Underground” of 1994 and with the expectations from many being high, something that surprised me as we are talking about a cult band of course, but having nothing special to give, taking in consideration their previous releases .
So, “Fracmont” is not an exception compared to the rest of their discography as it fails to blow our minds. The usual Death/Thrash metal that may sound pleasant but does not offer anything special to the listener. The riffs and the general construction of the compositions sound quite simplistic while the production is more modern than it should be for the return of such a cult band. Maybe the band should have focused on the old school feeling and aesthetics regarding the new album, not being sound so modern.
MESSIAH faithful to their tradition we were used to in the 80’s and 90’s, release a quite remarkable Death / Thrash Metal album that will be easily forgotten after a few listening and will be lost in the plethora of releases of thiw genre. At “Fracmont” the band shows that it has the mood for something good, but the mood is not enough as you should also have arranging capabilities. I think that MESSIAH once again prove that this is the best they can offer us.
