Italian Doom Metallers MESSA are set to release their new album, “The Spin,” on April 11th, 2025, via Metal Blade Records. MESSA’s musical identity draws influences from jazz, blues, punk, prog, black metal, and dark ambient. Having reached the milestone of ten years in 2024, MESSA takes another step forward with their fourth studio album. Rooted in their self-defined “scarlet doom” sound, “The Spin” incorporates goth rock elements from the 1980s for the first time.
The album was composed over six weeks of intensive daily sessions in a 500-year-old villa near their hometown of Bassano Del Grappa in Northern Italy. Unlike “Close,” which was recorded with all band members together in the same space, this time, they took the opposite approach. They recorded the album in three different locations and at different times, repeatedly restructuring the musical material to create a cohesive final result.
The band commented on “The Spin”:
“We don’t like to repeat ourselves and always seek new ways to express our music while maintaining our identity. This time, we delved into the 1980s—not in the way many other bands have done, but because we are always interested in exploring new sonic territories.”
Among the key influences on the new album, the band cites SISTERS OF MERCY, VIRGIN PRUNES, KILLING JOKE, MERCYFUL FATE, JIMMY PAGE, JOURNEY, THE SOUND, BOY HARSHER, and VANGELIS.
“The Spin” was recorded, mixed, and produced by Maurizio “Icio” Baggio. It features a trumpet solo by Michele Tedesco on “The Dress,” synths by Andrea Mantione on “Fire On The Roof,” and cover artwork by Nico Vascellari.

Ahead of the album release, MESSA has unveiled the first single, “At Races.” According to the band:
“The song speaks about the pressure we experience from the outside world. Expectations are often the root of pain, and we feel the weight of demands placed upon our shoulders. The track’s sound was inspired by KILLING JOKE’s sonic language, featuring distinctive guitar tapestries and synthesizers influenced by the 1980s.”
MESSA has confirmed a series of live performances across Europe in Spring 2025, including a special appearance at Roadburn Festival, where they will perform “The Spin” in its entirety.
