The Greek Black Metal scene is currently one of the world’s best and most active with many quality bands and releases. In this dark euphoric atmosphere, we must also add a new entity, LEECHES. The band was created in 2020 by N.D. (ISOLERT, SORGELIG), Reactive (ISOLERT, SORGELIG) and Wrath (DODSFERD) with a vision to present us their Black Metal in a more raw form compared to their current bands. Without any delay they introduced to us in April 2020 with their EP “A Plague In The Heart Of Light”.
The EP is a furious Old School Black Metal attack with no melodies for anyone who might have been longing for any. Violent sound in a fast tempo, with the only exception being the instrumental “Passage to Extinction” with its creepy piano, correspondingly raw production, while Wrath’s vocals have a rough edge with his throat being ripped out. The way he performs in this release is different compared to the latest DODSFERD albums, where he has a more Depressive tone. Also, one element that distinguishes the compositions is the riffs and the excellent guitar work, present also in ISOLERT’s latest album. So, LEECHES released an aggressive EP with the looming feeling of the early releases of Norwegian Black Metal, dark atmosphere and their personal musical touch.
“A Plague In The Heart Of Light” includes five songs of raw Black Metal and it is so good that it has already raised expectations for their next record release. Since the day it was released, I have become so addicted that even after so many months I am returning to it with the same musical “thirst” as the first time. It should also be noted that this EP created a lot of noise in the underground. The result was that the original version of fifty cassettes was sold out immediately and “forced” the band to release it again on cassette and then on CD and vinyl (with an extra song)..
