LABYRINTH ENTRANCE is a solo project by Hunger, worldwide Adam Ronij, bassist of the Polish Black’n’Rollers with the super dirty sound. This is his second attempt after “Monumental Bitterness”.
Truth is that the Polish Black Metal scene has released lately some really awesome albums. Even more important is the fact that this scene has managed to be identified by it’s own unique sound, which you understand by listening just to the music. Sometimes even from the cover and the logos! The music here is raw to the bone, the rhythms are super groovy, aggressive. All this is combined with a “core” mood. The vocals are too aggressive and to-your-face. Definitely, the music moves quite close to the traditional Black Metal sound, with songs like “Supreme Rapture” making the difference. But even where the melody exists, the guitar has a dirty sound, even on the acoustic part. A very strange musical piece is the “Paroxysm of Blakk Kult”, which begins with electronic sounds, to become very aggressive, then melodic with a recitation to Lucifer and then a more traditional Scandinavian Black metal sound, to wrap it up with a completely mid-tempo groovy mood. Then there are some nuggets from Death as also something from Post Metal on the self-titled track.
Speeds here are of all kinds. There are slow, fast and mid-tempo parts. The instruments as also the voice, are too dirty, as well as the whole atmosphere after all, even if the music is melodic. Personally, I think it is a pity that the production and the instruments do not have a clearer sound, but this is something that I do not think the Pole (and most of the Polish BM bands) are negotiating.
Fans of the Polish Black Metal scene (and beyond) should check out this release. This is the “dirt” you expected, but with a dose of melody. Just don’t wait for light here. Only darkness.
“BLACK BECOMES WHITE AND WHAT IS WHITE ALWAYS TURNS INTO BLACK”.
