KHAOS was founded in Haifa, Israel by N.Khaos in the fall of 2011. Ι could somehow describe it as a Black Metal -one woman- band which surprised me a lot since it’s not every day you come across to something like that, especially coming from Israel! To be more precise in my characterization, musically N.Khaos combines the spirit of the early Scandinavian Black Metal scene, in combination with the language and culture that emerged from her homeland Israel and her city Haifa! “Ensorcelled” was recorded with the help of two session musicians, Assaf Kassimov on drums and Or Rozenfeld on bass, as well as in contrabass on some of the tracks
The album is consisted of eight songs (more correctly from six songs and one intro and outro). Indeed the intro named “Borne on Restless Winds” is a very beautiful atmospheric prelude with the addition of synthesizer and piano which welcomes us in the mood of the entire album in the best way. Then, with the stormy “Theloe: Against the Dynasty of Storms” and even more with “Chasing the Winds” – which is the best song of the album for me – all their influences from BURZUM become evident, especially in the vocals, EMPEROR and DARK THRONE, maybe even early ENSLAVED! The album continues at the same style with several changes in tempo and the addition of recitations and atmospheric passages at many points. All album moves at the same high level and no song lacks behind. However, if I had to short out one more, this would be the epic ‘The Trident Banner’ which brings in mind BATHORY of “Blood Fire Death” era! I should also add that two of the songs are written in their mother language, a thing that emphasizes the several ethnic influences of N.Khaos!
In conclusion, this is a very beautiful and pure effort from a woman deeply concerned for many years in the underground Black Metal scene, but also in the “dark” scene of her country, in all the ways. I think she deserves our attention, wishing her the best for the future, which I believe belongs to her!
