The Finnish Melodic Death Metallers INSOMNIUM, are very well known to those who deal with Extreme Metal sound and especially with melodic Death Metal. With twenty-two years of career behind them and eight full-length albums already in their quiver, INSOMNIUM return this year, after the very good “Heart Like A Grave” of 2019, with a new EP entitled “Argent Moon”.
The EP consists of four songs, three of which, “The Conjurer”, “The Reticent” and “The Antagonist”, were released as single songs during 2021, while the fourth, “The Wanderer”, was the only unreleased song.
The connecting link between the four songs on the EP, is the fact that all four together tell a short but complete story of inner reflection, a story of seeking solutions, with Friman putting his soul into it, probably influenced by the crisis created by the pandemic, both in the band and around the world.
Alongside, Insomnium, are joined with the guitarist and singer on clean vocals, Jani Liimatainen, former member of SONATA ARCTICA. The three guitars, as well as the general musical direction of the band, which follows the path of “Heart like A Grave”, offer a very beautiful result.
An EP, may not be a complete album, however, this release of the Finns, despite its short duration, is full of emotions, and whoever chooses to listen to their new work, will feel complete and full of them. A beautiful addition to their catalogue, worthy of their name.
