When a band or an artist, such as Lambros Marantos (creator of INNERVERSE), decides to introduce himself to the public with an essentially instrumental album, then he shows confidence and trust in his musical compositions. Besides, vocals can hide many compositional problems or even failures.

INNERVERSE were introduced to us with the release of “Awakenings” a few months ago, an album of 8 songs and about 35 minutes of duration. First observation is the fact that there are not lengthy compositions which helps to make the album easier to listen to since Marantos develops his musical concept in every song in a straightforward and decisive way. Their sound can be characterized as Symphonic Progressive Metal with very strong oriental and ethnic elements as in the excellent “Fractal Of Loss” which fully exploits the special sound of the violin and other stringed instruments but also “Ishtar” which starts with a unique introduction with keyboards that is followed by a distinctive drums part. Surely, “The Promise” stands out since it is the only song with vocals by Vassilis Marantos, brother of Lambros, which might be a window to the future of INNERVERSE. Another song worth mentioning is “Cry Of Lucifer” which is probably the most atmospheric song of the album with haunting keyboards, symphonic mood and intense theatricality.

The final result on “Awakenings” definitely upholds Maranto’s decision to release this album. He clearly made his compositional mark, chose the difficult path and in their next albums INNERVERSE will enjoy the fruits of his efforts.
