On February 9th 2024, the Moldovan band INFECTED RAIN released its sixth full-length album entitled «Time».
«Time» consists of twelve tracks with a classic Metalcore approach, to which plenty of synthwave and EDM elements are added throughout the album. The vocal shifts from clean (with a unique tone and style) to “brutal” are almost predictable, with Elena “Lena Scissorhands” Cataraga trying -at least to my ears- desperately to sound like Otep Shamaya.
The tracks (with duration almost all around five minutes long), are loaded with Metalcore grooves, Nu Metal elements and, as previously mentioned, plenty of synthwave and EDM style. The song compositions are quite artificial and predictable regarding what will come in the next few seconds of listening. After several, admittedly numerous, listens to «Time» I managed to distinguish two songs out of twelve. «Never To Return» features a memorable introduction with many oriental elements, a good riff in the chorus, interesting vocals while, from the third minute, all these elements come together until the end.
The second song that stuck in my mind was «Pandemonium», having similar qualities to “Never To Return” along with the synthwave element (in the third minute it comes fully to the surface of the composition and really changes the whole atmosphere), creating the perfect soundtrack for films like “Stranger Things” or other similar nostalgic movie or series of the 80’s.
In conclusion, «Time» and INFECTED RAIN, passed without leaving any special impression, at least on me. However, their presence at all the major festivals worldwide,e might indicate the opposite for some… For the fans of this particular sound, I hope «Time» and INFECTED RAIN in general has something to offer.
