Here we have to deal with the Austrians HARAKIRI FOR THE SKY and their fourth full-length album entitled “Arson”. The band’s career begins in 2011 from Vienna city. So far they have given us three albums, each on them of high quality. Things are difficult. Why? Let’s “dive” into it…
For starters, the album grabs us by our faces from the first moment we press the “play” button. Razor-sharp riff are heard in the beginning, razor-sharp riffs are heard also throughout the album, parts with downbeats and “smart” changes in the drums and the vocal frantic, to say the least. We also have keys/piano here and there and when you think you can relax for a while, you find yourself again with your face on the ground being stomp down. Melodies everywhere, even in the fast parts, I would say that in some places, they’ve reminded me a bit of GOJIRA, but not so technical, something that makes me happy. We don’t need to say much about the album’s production. It is very clean, but not “plastic”, with nice thick guitars, heavy as needed and without losing their high frequencies. The bass is a “stonewall” and, together with the drums, they blow and sweep everything on their path. I don’t know how long it took them to prepare this album but they definitely fell head over heels at work and the result justifies them in all the glory!
Some say that it is a Post Black Metal album. Others, say it is Post Metal. For sure it is a METAL album and this fact doesn’t change. It contains everything that someone can think of: Melodies, atmospheric, melancholic parts, outbursts with blast beats, downbeats… A multi-dimensional album I dare to say, that doesn’t go unnoticed for sure.
“Arson” is an album that every metalhead must, or better, is mandatory to own! It goes without saying that we have to own all their albums, but mostly this one in particular. Speaking for myself, from the moment I first listened to it, it goes on and off at my playlist pretty often and it is easily one of the best albums that this genre has ever offered us. One of the bands that deserve being on top, hands down!
