GRAVEIR come from Brisbane, Australia and they are performing Black Metal, mixing different extreme genres. Formed in 2014, they have shared the stage with bands like 1349, BOLZER, AURA NOIR among others and “King Of Silent World” is their second record, which is, musically, easier digested than its ancestor, “Iconostasis”. That is not a bad thing necessary, because the only one that could get angry about this would be the purists, but these guys were here and will be present in future time according to their elitist self isolation.
“King Of Silent World” starts with a rather interesting track, “Charnel Bacchanalia”, a strong moment, but the evolution of the record gets them into the fields of ANCIENT and an invocation to VED BUENS ENDE as far as it concerns their contribution to the orthodox deposition. The songs differ from each other and are evolving from dynamic intro to slow mid tempo parts and giving full speed at the end. There are of course Blackgaze elements -a sign of our times- and some monolithic Funeral Doom glimpses such as “Bathed In Acheron”. The listener should feel the galloping rhythm of MISPYRMING and the aura of BLUT AUS NORD in the guitar riffs. The ending of each song with the use of distortion may give a tone of expectation for the next track but at the same time leaves you with a feel of incompleteness and dissatisfaction. Vocals are harsh and a little back in the mixing, something that in my opinion is a good thing because it leaves space for the guitars to show us some very interesting riffs and promising themes.
The biggest disadvantage of this record is the total runtime, almost one hour of different extreme elements which divides the listener’s opinion. This mixture of the aforementioned genres sounds quite promising but the result is rather different, leaving you empty without any strong moment to remember. GRAVEIR is a new promising band but they should decide what they really want to perform and to support it the right way. Until then…
