GODSNAKE is a Metal band from Germany, having released its debut album on October of 2020. Even if it is a new band, it has already made its presence felt in the metal scene! Let’s see what the band members Stevo and Torger have to say to THEGALLERY.GR…
– On behalf of The Gallery: Web Magazine, I would like to thank you for your time here! GODSNAKE. Let’s start from your name! What does it mean, what inspired you to name your band under that?
Stevo: Thanks for having us! During the recording of our EP ’Hellbound Ride’ we were sitting in the studio with our Producer Lasse Lammert trying to come up with a proper name for this type of noise we were working on. I think it was actually Lasse who threw GODSNAKE on the table and so it began. We realized later that this evil pet we created is a mighty beast with the power to kill……is this metal or what?!?
– What genre do GODSNAKE represent? How would you characterize your music?
Stevo: I think it’s difficult to categorize us, because we include many different elements. From all the reviews we can see that there are many different opinions on this topic. We chose to categorize it as Melodic Thrash Metal as this sums it up best for us. A typical GODSNAKE Song is usually built around a heavy riff and then combined with melodic, sometimes grooves elements. We don’t have a specific formula on how to create a song, but often we end up using melodic hooklines in the Chorus, and a more thrash based part in the mid-section of the Song. Sometimes we add a Solo, but not a MUST. It’s all about what suits best for the direction of the song.
– Lyrically, what are the messages GODSNAKE want to share with the listener?
Torger: We are no preachers, we don´t want to tell people how to live. But dealing with all the shit happening in our world – 2020 is a special year to realize real shit – we have to shout out sometimes and at least let people hear some criticism and complains. I like lyrics that give room for interpretations, not too much right in your face. In theory, it is so easy to live together….it is all about respect towards each other. Unfortunately, the lyrics mainly have to deal with the opposite.
– Since you are a fresh band, can you introduce yourself and the band for us? Can you share some major information concerning GODSNAKE?
Stevo: I’m Stevo and I play guitar. I’m mostly involved with the songwriting for GODSNAKE. In general, we are 5 dudes that share the same passion for music. We have a good vibe within the band and enjoy making music together.
Torger: I am Torger and I am the singer, also responsible for the lyrics. We also have Malt on Guitar, Walt on Bass and Sidney on Drums. We feel like a team of friends and that is a great basis for all musical work. We are based in Hamburg, Germany. GODSNAKE as a band made the first steps in 2014 with the EP. Some gigs were played and the wheel started turning a little bit. Since 2017 the current line-up is existing and everything felt in the right place. So since then we are constantly working to make the snake a fat and mighty killer..
– “Poison Thorn” is your first album, following the EP “Hellbound Ride”. Please give us some information about it. Where was it recorded? Your experience during the recording sessions.
Stevo: It was recorded in Lübeck at Lasse Lammert`s LSD Studios. Some of the songs on this record have been written years ago, but we took our time to complete the songwriting and then enter the studio at the right time. It was a great experience to see those Songs develop into their final version during the recording process. We had been playing them live for quite some time, but to have them properly produced and witness how they finally came together was a great experience for me.
– Massacre Records is the label that signed GODSNAKE. What does that mean for the band? Did this contract open new horizons?
Stevo: We are super stoked to be with Massacre Records. It’s a great label and is obviously helping us promote our product properly. The Album is being distributed world-wide, so we are very fortunate being able to present our music to many different countries all over the world. It’s been exciting to get so much positive responses from all over the place. It was also nice to notice the good vibes coming from Greece in particular. Some crushing reviews, it seems the album was really well received there.
– How does your new album stand in the market during its first weeks? What is the acceptance of the metallheads around the world? What would you like to say to anyone in order to join GODSNAKE in this musical journey?
Stevo: Well, as already mentioned, we are very happy that the record has been received so well all over the world. We still have reviews coming in from different countries, and for the most part it’s all very positive. We are very thankful for that. I think for a debut album coming from a band that nobody knew, we can be very satisfied. For every Metalhead that enjoys our music I can promise that we are only getting started. We are already writing material for the follow-up record, which will kick-ass. If the demand is there, we will come and play wherever the opportunity arises.
– How will you support your new album? Any plans of touring yet, or perhaps something else you think about? With Covid pandemic it seems that “touring plans” are left aside from most of the bands.
Stevo: This is the shitty part. Normally we would want to get out there and play live so that we can promote our record properly. But with Covid none of that is possible. So we are discussing ways of how we can stay connected with the Metal Community even though we cannot play live. There are a few ideas that we cannot talk about right now, so stay tuned.
– Last words are yours. An advice perhaps or something you would like to say to the Greek metalheads and all the people around the world!
Stevo: As soon as this pandemic blows over, we want to get out and play live. If the opportunity arises to come down to Greece and play a few shows we would absolutely love to do that! I have been in Greece a couple of times already and have always enjoyed being there. There is a great vibe and the Greek people seem very passionate about their music. I love that. Ok guys, thanks for having us and showing interest in GODSNAKE. To all you Greek Metalheads, hopefully we can come down to your area sooner than later. And once it happens, we guarantee a great show with a lot of energy and passion! All the best! Rock on
