In 2011 the members of the band from Crema decided to leave behind their rehearsals in amateur compositions and as being familiar from the past, joined forces for a common vision, GENUS ORDINIS DEI.
The key year for the band, after several appearances in Italy and throughout Europe, came after their meeting with Marco Coti Zelati in 2014 (producer and bassist of the beloved LACUNA COIL), with whom they began collaborating on their first self-titled EP. From 2016 onwards, they have shown an upward artistic trajectory as they signed their virgin contract with Mighty Music and a little later they started recording “Great Olden Dynasty”. This would be the ticket to follow LACUNA COIL on the Delirium World Tour, while on the way back they “grabbed” a new contract with Eclipse Records. The “Italian Metal Union” would be sealed with the participation of the “goddess” of LACUNA COIL, Cristina Scabbia on their track “Salem”, so their career has started with the best recommendations and prospects.
According to their recent interviews, they try to create a more mature sound in each of their new works, as for them spontaneity plays a particularly important role in their compositions, even during the official recordings. The band has set a high bar of expectations and from what we can distinguish from 2014 onwards, they have managed to develop their Death Metal sound with several symphonic elements, something that is obvious in their new complete record, entitled «Glare Of Deliverance ». The dynamic vocals in combination with their atmospheric sound can keep you company with perhaps the only drawback being that of the extended duration of the tracks because, no matter how special the album is, you do not want to spend your life over it..!
This specific work of GENUS ORDINIS DEI is therefore a new concept album from the band, as each track tells the story of the young Eleanor, from the moment of her arrest until her interrogation by the Holy Inquisition. So who can say “no” to a Death Metal fairy tale?
From the beginning of the album, “Ritual” gives us a Medieval symphonic sound with a vibe that could easily secure a soundtrack design of a movie that would take place in Middle-earth. The positive thing is that in the same album the musical “experiments” of the band are evident, so we can say that the mentality of “spontaneity” seems to be fulfilled. So where do we end up? Yes it is very good but it is not epic. We hear something very nice as a result but we did not fall from any cloud of music innovation and we definitely need enough way to overcome the bar that they have set. For this style we are waiting for an impressive album that will shock our symphonic Death Metal universe. So we suggest them to accept the challenge and be able to overcome themselves in the not so distant future.
“Glare Of Deliverance” is therefore a particularly remarkable effort from the Italians (who in all honesty are not accustomed to a similar sound), which sounds pleasant and reveals the potential of the band, leaving several promises for the future. Their music, although not very surprising (in terms of its style), is distinguished by passion and a sincere artistic will to create. Maybe that is the key for this specific work, but also for all those we wish they continue to offer us. After all, GENUS ORDINIS DEI in Latin means “the beginning of a divine series”, so hopefully the same applies to them!
