Galder’s departure from DIMMU BORGIR is not only a loss for the band but also a significant moment for the Black Metal community! His contribution to DIMMU BORGIR helped to define a new era for the Norwegian symphonic Black Metallers and his absence will undoubtedly be felt.
Galder’s decision to leave DIMMU BORGIR and shift his focus entirely to OLD MAN’S CHILD (his own Black Metal band since 1993) was announced via social media. By dedicating himself fully to OLD MAN’S CHILD, Galder is returning to his roots, embarking on a more personal artistic journey. You can read Galder’s full statement below:
“Yesterday I played my last show with Dimmu Borgir. After almost 25 years of making music and playing with Dimmu Borgir I have decided to leave the band.
I have been thinking about this for years and as many of you have been pointing out – it’s time for Old Man’s Child to get onstage again and finalizing the new album.
I wish the best for the other members of the band moving forward“.
Tom Rune “Galder” Andersen joined DIMMU BORGIR in 2001, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a unique stylistic approach. Already an established name in the symphonic Black Metal scene, Galder’s involvement marked a period of increased creativity and musical exploration for the band.
Albums such as “Death Cult Armageddon” (2003) and “In Sorte Diaboli” (2007) showcased his ability to blend Black Metal with symphonic and melodic elements, creating a sublime sound that became a hallmark of the band’s identity. During his tenure with DIMMU BORGIR, Galder’s songwriting played a key role in producing memorable and commercially successful songs, contributing to the band’s evolution from their raw Black Metal roots to a more polished, symphonic sound.
Good luck to Galder! He was the MVP of DB
