A sad piece of news has shaken the Swedish Death Metal scene, as Fredrik Lindgren, guitarist of the influential band UNLEASHED, has passed away at the age of 53.
Fredrik Lindgren was the lead guitarist of UNLEASHED from 1989 to 1995, contributing to the band’s first four albums: «Where No Life Dwells» (1991), «Shadows in the Deep» (1992), «Across the Open Sea» (1993), and «Victory» (1995). In addition to his work with UNLEASHED, he was also involved in other bands such as TERRA FIRMA and HARMS WAY, and more recently was a member of BORN OF FIRE and ATLANTIC TIDE.
The news of Fredrik Lindgren’s passing was announced on UNLEASHED’s official Facebook page, accompanied by the following official statement from the band:
«Warriors, sadly, we are crushed by the heartbreaking news that Fredrik Lindgren, guitarist of UNLEASHED from 1989 to 1995, has passed away. Fredrik was a huge part of the early history of the band. For this, we are eternally grateful. See you in Valhalla, brother!»
Additionally, TERRA FIRMA’s vocalist Lord Chritus (also known as Christian Lindersson) shared his own tribute to Lindgren, who was known as Freddie Eugene during his time with the band from 1995 to 2003:
«I am numb from the news of your passing, Fredrik, my old friend. It’s hard to put emotions into words. I just hope you’ve found the peace you deserve. You won’t only be missed by me, but by many others — this I know for sure. Thank you for being a part of my life and coloring it with your friendship and musicianship, both embodied in what was TERRA FIRMA. We had some truly great times, and that will never change. All my love. In loving memory of Freddie Eugene, 1971-2025.»
It is worth noting that the HARMS WAY Lindgren was associated with was a Stoner Metal band, not the Hardcore group active today. Over the years, Lindgren participated in a wide range of musical projects.
