The Spanish Metal band EXESSUS is considered to be a Thrash Metal band. With their second full length album “Asynapse” (their first was “Time In Coma” in 2017), they prove that they are more than Thrash.
They manage to combine in harmony quite a few subgenres of Metal. From the classic Old School METALLICA style Thrash Metal, in “No King” or “Inner Parasite” to more Heavy Rock trails like in “Paths” up to blues atmospheric references like in the intro of “Voyager”. In general, EXESSUS are obviously try to combine different ideas and elements even within the same song and to create digestible songs that will be listened to even by the most uninitiated in Thrash. A good example of that is the song “Notes Of The Soul Pt 2”, which also includes some very interesting guitar solos. One of the worst moments is the DJ aesthetic of the second half of the otherwise very good “Welcome To The Hole”, which is completely awkward. Finally the extended version of “Paths”, with which they close their more than 1 hour musical journey, they basically condense all the genres they tried to include in their album.
“Asynapse” is a very good album and very well crafted by the band. The diversity that Ivan Exe offers with his vocals gives them the opportunity to implement their great ideas. Highly recommended!!!!
