Today we are staying in Greece and specifically in Thrash Metal. DEVIL ROLLING DICE were created in 2007 by singer/guitarist Dimitris Stathopoulos and his brother and drummer, Kimon. For many reasons they never released anything officially, however, at times they played live. So, after 12 years of life, they released their first album, entitled “The Catastrophic Sequence”. Let’s dive into it…
Let’s begin with production. Well-worked, clean, not plastic, which I often mention in my reviews, but nowadays, many bands fall (unfortunately) into this trap. Heavy guitars and especially by the singer/guitarist Dimitris, who has all the rhythm guitar on him and those who know him, know about his right hand, intense and heavy bass, which although he does not play something over the top, except some very clever phrases here and there, it gives a lot of “heaviness” to the album and together with the drums, they lead the band down the right path. Smart solos by the guitarist Dimitris Napas (SIRIUS, REPENTLESS, along with frontman Dimitris in both bands), with nice and “sweet” passages sometimes, and breaking hell loose in others. Regarding the drums we hear what we need to hear. Without being fancy and poser and without much fuss, they are faithfully “following” the guitars and structures of each song. Leaving the vocals for the end, here we have a black-ish voice, obviously influenced by the German school of the genre.
Speaking for 12 years without an recording, the band’s debut was expected to have a fairly high level, in terms of the compositions and the work they did, so that we have this result in our hands. It is recommended without a second thought, to the fans of METALLICA, TESTAMENT and KREATOR of the era of the “Violent Revolution” album. I am definitely already looking forward to their next album, which will only be for good.
