We all know David Ellefson as the bassist and a key member of one of the most important Thrash Metal bands, MEGADETH. Apart from them and his participation in various other bands, such as METAL ALLEGIANCE and KNIGHT FURY, Ellefson maintains since 2011 his personal band, ELLEFSON.
ELLEFSON, although active since then, have only two EPs and a compilation album in their discography and in 2020, almost ten years after their founding, they released their first complete work under the name “No Cover”. The band, apart from Ellefson himself who in addition to the bass, also plays the guitars, consists of Thom Hazaert on vocals and Paolo Caridi (HOLLOW HAZE) on drums.
The first complete release of the band is a double album consisting of nineteen songs, all covers of well-known tracks by equally well-known bands and names such as JUDAS PRIEST, AC / DC, MOTORHEAD, WASP, QUEEN and other important and influential Rock and Metal artists. What we encounter in “No Cover” is Ellefson’s approach to these songs, which have influenced him as a musician and he wanted to pay tribute to their creators.
Songs such as “Freewheel Burning”, “Over The Mountain”, “Love Hurts” and “Rebel Yell” are presented here under the prism of Ellefson and a rougher edge, closer to the style of the artist himself, who wanted to offer the adaptations of these songs to the listener in a renewed, fresh version.
The album is not bad, its production is beautiful and meticulous and in addition we can add various guest musicians who participate in the songs such as Gus G. (FIREWIND) and Dave Lombardo (x-SLAYER), who also add their own personal note with their presence, but in the end, apart from a set of well-known songs, the album does not have to present anything new, nor something that will remain in the past year which, although one of the most curious, musically had to show plenty of good albums, some of them top-tier achievements.
