The new album by the Germans CYPECORE, “Make Me Real” presents an intriguing thematic along with some scattered interesting points throughout the album. The sound of the album resembles a mix of the industrial elements of RAMMSTEIN – though not quite at the same level, of course – the Metalcore sound of TRIVIUM, and a slew of Djent bands. They’ve also incorporated SciFi/Post Apocalyptic themes into their character, which could serve as a reason for someone to give it a listen. “Make Me Real” consists of ten tracks, eight of which are full compositions, after removing the intro and outro.
The album kicks off with the most interesting songs of the record, “Neoteric Gods” and “Pinnacle Of Creation”. These two songs stand out from the rest of the album in terms of their composition overall and their dark aesthetic. The titular song, an almost ballad-like track, is a rather indifferent song with the only positive being the admittedly beautiful vocal lines. “King Of Rats” almost a pop song, sounded completely out of place with the creative continuity of the album.
“Fragments”, “I’ll Be Back”, and “Patient Zero” carry significant grooves with exaggerated industrial elements, and finally, the album’s outro, which I genuinely enjoyed more than the main songs, with a strong Synthwave aesthetic, feels fully cinematic with scenes from Blade Runner effortlessly conjured in your mind.
In general, “Make Me Real” is an album that shows how CYPECORE are attempting to communicate their SciFi and Post-Apocalyptic message in a unique and admittedly distinct way. Unfortunately, this uniqueness strictly begins and ends with the mixture of many elements in their sound, resulting in, for the most part of the album, an overloaded and – in my ears at least – even contrived outcome.
