Four years after their previous album “Doomsday Rituals,” the Swedish Death Metallers CENTINEX return furious with their new eleventh full length album “Death In Pieces”. CENTINEX was formed in 1990 and disbanded in 2006, only to reunite in 2014 and re-enter the Death Metal charts. Nowadays, there is only one original member, Martin Schulman, with the other members being in the band since 2019.
In their new album, the Swedes do not surprise us very much (not that we expected something different) as they offer us 32 minutes of Old School Death Metal, mainly in fast tempos, with a solid sound (which corresponds to an equivalent production). “Death In Pieces” picks up where the previous album finished, with a furious character and a rhythm section demolishing everything in his path, as guitars vomit Death Metal riffs with OBITUARY influences. Some mid-tempo songs that exist help to break the monotony of fast compositions while maintaining the war-like atmosphere of the album. Compared to previous CENTINEX’s releases, “Death In Pieces” has far more obvious influences from the Florida scene and the sound of the new album could be described as Swedish Death Metal with Florida’s guidance.
At a time when most bands are trying to incorporate many different elements into their sound, there are moments when you want to hear something straightforward like “Death In Pieces.” CENTINEX has given greater emphasis on aggression, and the album, although not characterized by originality, its short duration helps not to become tedious and sounds pleasantly. Those who want to simply enjoy a good Old School Death Metal album, CENTINEX delivers beyond doubt.
