BRUTALITY come from Tampa, state of Florida and play, well what else, Floridian Death Metal. They were formed in 1988, released four full length albums, several EPs and demos and after a long period of uncertainty, they were reunited in 2012. “Antecedent Offerings” was released as 7” collector’s item vinyl in 500 copies by Ceremonial Records.
On A’ side there is “Crushed” a re-recorded version of the track back from their “Screams Of Anguish” LP which was released back in 1993 and on B’ side there is “Artistic Butchery” again a re-recorded track from their “When The Sky Turns Black” LP of 1994. And that’s where the problem begins. Ι can see the reason why an artist tries to get some changes and variations over his recordings and see how they effect on him. This is called evolution and artistic maturity. Another reason is maybe the artist is not satisfied either with the disc production or the performance of the music tracks. This is called concern and responsibility. On “Antecedent Offerings” neither of those two reasons exist. OK, the production is more modern and polished and the guitars sound more fresh and louder, but that’s all there is.
I haven’t heard BRUTALITY for a long time and this release made me listen to their early albums. After doing so, I came to a conclusion. Certain albums and tracks should be listened the time of their release according to the conditions of that era, otherwise they just sound like a re-heated soup with a dose of modernism and novelty.
