“Godsend” is the fourth album of the Finnish Melodic Death Metallers BLOODRED HOURGLASS! The band is active for the last 13 years, with their first demo released back in 2006 and their debut full-length album “Lifebound” released in 2012.
Their new album, consisting of ten tracks, is quite different from their previous release. However, the Finnish guys here catch the full range of the metal-type they represent. “Godsend” welcomes you with clear guitars, like the wind before the storm at the beginning of the opening track, “Waves of Black”, unleashing a Melodeath attack along the way, a typical example of how BLOODRED HOURGLASS will move throughout the album. With more “thrashy” moments in “Devourer” and more melodic moments in “My Route’s” and “Alysia”, the band is dynamic with a very fresh sound!
Probably the best track of the album is “Pieces”, with amazing changes till its ending. “Godsend” closes with “On My Throne” and “White Feather” containing beautiful keys, both melancholic and trippy, that summarize virtually everything in BLOODRED HOURGLASS’ showcase. This complexity proves that the band can “mix” different kinds, with a striking use of the keys as an extra hint for this “mix up”. The band is not afraid to try and experiment new things, presenting something with their own breath and uniqueness!
