Truth is that when you hear the words “Norway” and “metal music” the first thing that comes in mind is Black Metal. Not in the case of BLOOD RED THRONE, who come from Norway and since 1998 they play Death Metal. ‘Fit to Kill’ is their ninth full length album, with the most balanced material they’ve ever created yet.
“Fit to Kill” is exactly what we expected from BLOOD RED THRONE, giving no surprises. They mainly play old school Death Metal, influenced by bands like DEICIDE, CANNIBAL CORPSE and DECAPITATED, with some vibes from SLAYER. The record is intense with a massive rhythm section, which guides the music in mid-tempo paths with some faster outbursts here and there. The guitars are spewing Death Metal riffs and, in some songs, we also hear melodies that remind us of CARCASS. On the other hand, the band’s vocalist Yngve “Bolt” Christiansen is roaring like a beast, sounding like a bastardized mix between Glen Benton and Chris Barnes.
BLOOD RED THRONE with “Fit to Kill” does not offer us something new, making not any innovation in the Death Metal genre. They simply create accessible songs that the fans of extreme metal will enjoy listening. Also, metal listeners who are not familiar with extreme/brutal metal music, can easily hear this record, as the band manages to combine violent, catchy riffs and breakdowns.
