It’s 2004 and in the inhospitable and frozen forests of Taygetos (Peloponnisos, Hellas) ATHOS are born. The band is the personal creation of Kerveros (the only member) and the vehicle with which he will express his dark musical vision. The band from 2004 to the present day has released a demo, an EP, five split and six albums. The sixth full length was released this year and is entitled “From The Darkness Within”.

The album cover leaves no room for doubt about its musical content… dark Black Metal drawing mainly inspiration from the Norwegian scene of early 90s and more specifically by the early DARKTHRONE and BURZUM. The songs are mainly aggressive but there are also some that follow a more mid-tempo rhythm like “Daemon” (the song’s breakdown has been strongly influenced by BURZUM’s “A Lost Forgotten Sad Spirit”). Regarding the guitar work of the record, the characteristic tremolo riffing dominates and is interrupted in some parts by some “sick” melodies. Kerveros’s furious vocals spit the lyrics with hatred, which are all written in the Greek language, while the production is as raw as it should be so as to highlight the nostalgic Black Metal sound of the compositions.

Athos with “From The Darkness Within” once again reveal their selfless love for the early Norwegian Black Metal scene and they approach it with respect and fiery passion. Those who prefer their Black Metal raw,primitive and dark, have been offered by ATHOS the ideal album which will accompany them in the cold forthcoming winter nights.
