In the last decade, the British band ALESTORM has managed to ascend the ranks of the broader Folk Metal scene. Just a year after their latest full-length release, Captain Morgan’s pirate crew returns with a new release, the EP «Voyage of the Dead Marauder». Musically, ALESTORM continues to follow their typical Power/Folk Metal style and light-hearted approach.
«Voyage of the Dead Marauder» features pleasant melodies, female vocals contributed by Patty Gurdy (who also played the hurdy-gurdy), harmoniously complemented by harsher male vocals. «Uzbekistan» showcases ALESTORM’s playful spirit, while «The Last Saskatchewan Pirate» (originally by THE ARROGANT WORMS) and «Sea Shanty 2» (a song by Ian Taylor) are the EP’s covers. The EP concludes with the brief track «Cock».
«Voyage of the Dead Marauder» by ALESTORM offers two mediocre songs («Voyage of the Dead Marauder» and «The Last Saskatchewan Pirate»), followed by three entirely unremarkable tracks. Devoted fans might give this EP a few listens, while casual listeners can skip it without any guilt.
