Following the recent events in AS I LAY DYING, in which four members and the band’s tour manager quitted the band, Tim Lambesis has just released the following statement:

“As I reflect, I certainly agree that there was an unhealthy environment that made leaving for a new tour with the previous lineup unrealistic. It had become difficult to figure out even the smallest details, and I admit I can stick strong to my vision for the future of AILD even when others think it should go another direction.”

He continued his statement by addressing tensions, particularly between himself and guitarist Phil Sgrosso, which led Phil to be the first to leave the band. His departure was followed by the remaining members, who expressed their unwillingness to continue without Sgrosso. Lambesis wrote:

“Phil and I no longer saw eye to personally, creatively, or financially. Discussions during this time prompted his decision to depart first, with each of the touring members deciding to leave shortly after, as they were not interested in going on without him. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the order in which everything was made public, as some statements were rushed out during a chaotic time in response to rumors.”

The new era of AS I LAY DYING remains on the horizon, and despite the challenges, Tim Lambesis appears determined to move forward with a new lineup, stating:

“Now, regarding what’s next: AILD was founded on persistence and determination. For anyone who is familiar with the foundational years from 2000-2004, you know that more than 20 people (whom I’m incredibly grateful for) have come and gone to help bring to life this vision I’ve had in my head since I was 19 years old. I look forward to building a new team, and creating an atmosphere that is supportive, positive, and fosters a creative environment.”

With the upcoming album Through Storms Ahead set for release on November 15, 2024, Lambesis expresses hope for fostering a positive and creative environment for his new team and concluded his announcement as follows:

“Through Storms Ahead” will still be released November 15.  I am proud of what we created and look forward to sharing it with all of you.

In an unprecedented turn of events, AS I LAY DYING faced a significant crisis over recent days, witnessing all its members depart, leaving founder and vocalist Tim Lambesis as the sole remaining member searching for a new musical beginning. The wave of departures began with bassist Ryan Neff’s exit on October 18, 2024, soon followed by the resignation of their tour manager amidst rumors of a canceled European tour. The situation quickly escalated to a complete disbandment as guitarist Ken Susi, drummer Nick Pierce, and longtime guitarist Phil Sgrosso announced their resignations, citing personal, ethical, and professional reasons.

Ken Susi, who joined the band after years with UNEARTH, stated that his personal ethics had been tested, saying:

“I leave with immense gratitude… however, my personal values have reached a breaking point.”

Nick Pierce emphasized his need for distance, noting that his departure aims to protect his health and integrity. Phil Sgrosso added that the band environment had become unhealthy and unsafe.
