Lately, there have been casual discussions about one last, real concert by BLACK SABBATH with the original lineup, and it seems that it might actually happen. Ozzy Osbourne is positive, Tony Iommi wants it, Geezer Butler has expressed his support, and even Bill Ward himself stated that he would like to do it.
In a recent interview, BLACK SABBATH bassist Geezer Butler talked about how this concert could happen. Ozzy Osbourne wants the final BLACK SABBATH performance to take place during his own hypothetical farewell concert. Geezer specifically stated:
“I highly doubt there would ever be a full reunion. Maybe a one-off show. Ozzy was talking to me about his farewell concert, which he still wants to do, he really wants to get back on stage, and he suggested that at his final concert, the four of us should get on stage and play three or four songs together. That would be all. Definitely no more tours. It would just be a one-off event.”
The only thing that has been heard about this from the Osbourne family came from Ozzy’s wife and manager, Sharon Osbourne, earlier this year. She stated that it could take place over two nights at Aston Villa’s Villa Park stadium in Birmingham, one night with Ozzy Osbourne and the other with BLACK SABBATH.
BLACK SABBATH concluded their journey with only three-quarters of the classic lineup on stage, meaning singer Ozzy Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi, and bassist Geezer Butler. Drummer Bill Ward left BLACK SABBATH in 2012 due to contractual disputes and, unfortunately, did not participate in either their final album, “13”, or their final tour.
Speaking about BLACK SABBATH’s last concert during The End tour in 2017 in Birmingham, Ozzy Osbourne stated:
“Yes, I was glad it ended, but I was sad that Bill wasn’t there. Tommy Clufetos, my band’s drummer, did an amazing job, but he’s not Bill Ward. I don’t feel like it ended properly. It wasn’t BLACK SABBATH ending their story. If they wanted to do one more show with Bill, I’d jump at the chance. You know what would be awesome? If we went to some club, secretly, and just played. We started in clubs, so that would be perfect!”»
