BLOOD EAGLE is a rather new band formed by Franz Hellboss and Mircea Eftemie (both ex- VOLBEAT, MNEMIC). This 5 piece is completed by Michael Olsson (vocals, ex-CARO), Mikael Ehlert (bass, ex- HATESPHERE) and Morten Toft Hansen (drums, ex- HATESPHERE, RAUNCHY). Well ok, you can’t really call them a supergroup but if anything, this is a very interesting project to check out. They released one 7” back in 2014 and now it’s time to release their first album, which for reasons unknown to me, it is split in 3 Ep’s and here we have the second part. The first one came out in September and the 3rd and final is coming out at November 22nd.
Their style is modern death metal, as they say the threw in the cauldron Napalm
Death, Bolt Thrower, Morbid Angel and a tad of Mastodon and voila, here they
are ! In my opinion, they sound more like early Mastodon and a modern version
of Morbid Angel or At the Gates and the likes but who cares, what we hear is
what matters in the end.
So, in this second part that we present hear, you can’t say its bad, it sure is well played modern technical death metal with very good and clean as needed production, done at Antfarm Studios in Denmark by the guitarist / producer Tue Madsen, with furious angry vocals and drumming and fast groovy guitars with good riffing. On the other hand I cannot say I am impressed and surely the total length isn’t helping on that since when you want to search deeper, there it ends!
Those of you who like this specific style should check them out while we wait for the final part to get a better and more complete idea of what they are all about, the way they did it (hey, it’s not like they had 2 hours of music and wanted to do it gradually) will not help them much I’m afraid.
