Release Athens 2025 welcomes GOJIRA on Saturday, July 19th, 2025, at Plateia Nerou. One of the top bands in modern Heavy music is expected to deliver a crushing show, shortly after their electrifying performance at the Opening Ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games, which rightfully captured the world’s attention!

On July 26th, GOJIRA made history as the first Metal band to perform at the Olympic Games, playing “Ah, Ça Ira!”, a traditional song associated with the French Revolution, against a uniquely impressive backdrop. However, their place in the Heavy Metal elite has been solidified for many years.

Defying restrictive categorization, the four Frenchmen have crafted a distinctive sound, both heavy and deeply emotional, composing dark and crushing anthems rooted in death Metal, while also incorporating Progressive, technical Death Metal, Thrash, and tribal elements. Meanwhile, Joe Duplantier’s philosophical and environmentally conscious lyrics reflect the band’s ecological mindset.

The lineup has remained the same since their first album, with brothers Joe and Mario Duplantier, alongside Christian Andreu and Jean-Michel Labadie. Their impressive performance skills have made them one of the top Metal live acts in the world.

Their most recent studio album, the outstanding “Fortitude” (2021), is the most successful in their discography to date, both in Europe and the US. A bright album, as they describe it, calling for ecological awakening in response to what is happening in the world.
