DOWNCROSS is a Black Metal band from Belarus with a great love for the Norwegian Black Metal scene. It was a great surprise that in 2019 they’ve released their second album “What Light Covers” just a few months after their very good debut album “Mysteries Of The Left Path”, which was released in February of 2019!! I believed that the seven songs of “What Light Covers Not” were written before the release of their debut album and the band simply decided to release two albums in 2019.

Before listening to “What Light Covers No” I was quite skeptical if this album would be as good as “Mysteries Of Left Path”. Because it was more than a good debut and the band had already gained recognition in the underground. I thought it was a quick move to release a second album just seven months after their first. But, due to the fact that everything is judged by the outcome, in the case of DOWNCROSS the result is really good!

DOWNCROSS is an “aggressive” Black Metal band as their sound causes “heavy damage” in combination always with the awesome vocals of Ldzmr’s. I think that the main characteristic of the band is the songwriting quality. All songs are distinguished for their really good riffs and melodies. The album is so charmingly simple for the listener and creates the feeling of wanting to repeat it every time its finished. A record that makes you want to hear it over and over again without getting tired or bored. Also in every new hearing you constantly discover new elements and emotions since DOWNCROSS have the ability of mixing brutality with melody in an enticing concoction.

DOWNCROSS manage to release another really good Black Metal record in 2019. The album is in the same sound levels as their debut, with better songs though. A new band that I think will make us focus on them in the future. All Black Metal fans should pay attention to this band and give a listen to their records.
