The Finnish Melodic Death Metallers WOLFHEART released the album «King Of The North» in 2022, adding another impressive chapter to their successful discography. Founded by Tuomas Saukkonen in 2013, initially as a solo project, they became known for their dark and epic style, combining melody and brutality into a unique sound.

The album features nine tracks, each narrating a story related to Finnish mythology and the wild nature of the North. From the opening “Skyforger” to the epic “Eternal Slumber” WOLFHEART creates an atmosphere full of intensity and emotional charge. A standout moment on the album is “Cold Flame” featuring Karl Sanders of NILE, which boasts exceptional melodies and Sanders’ vocals adding a distinct touch to the overall result.

The album prominently features clean vocals, particularly notable in one of their remarkable collaborations, with Jesse Leach of  KILLSWITCH ENGAGE appearing on the chorus of the second track “Ancestor” Vagelis Karzis (-ex ROTTING CHRIST, FULL HOUSE BREW CREW), who has fully integrated into the band since the album “Wolves of Karelia”, also contributes to the clean vocals on the record.

Compared to their previous albums, “King Of The North” presents a more mature approach to composition and production. While the album maintains WOLFHEART’s identity, there is an evolution in their sound, with a greater emphasis on melody and atmosphere. The album experiments with new elements without straying from the band’s roots.

Overall, “King Of The North” is an excellent example of how the band continues to evolve, offering something fresh and exciting to their fans while simultaneously honoring their musical past. The careful production work and dedication to the theme make this album a necessary addition to the discography of every Melodic Death Metal fan.
