Birmingham legendary Industrial Metallers GODFLESH return with their ninth full length album called “Purge”. The album contains eight new songs while the band’s classic line-up remains unchanged 25 years since its founding, with Justin Broadrick (guitars, vocals, drum programming) and G.C. Green (bass) still forming the core of the band.
Τhe years have passed, the band members are now in their mid 50’s and the question is: “do they still have it?”. And the answer is probably…YES! All the elements first heard on 1989’s monumental “Streetcleaner” are here! Hard guitars in loops, bombastic bass, drum machines at low speeds, drone/sludgy passages and Broadrick “spitting” the words with passion, fury, hardness and brutality! Are we listening to something new compared to the previous albums?? The answer is probably NO, since the only new element we find on the new album is some keyboards in “The Father” and “Mythology Of Self” which give a much darker style to these songs and make them stand out immediately. Along with “Nero” which opens the album and is the first single released, those are my three favorite ones. Also, here we will find a few samples along with some weirder (for GODFLESH) drum machine playing of “Permission” that make it stand out as well. From there, the rest of the tracks are technically at a high level, without though giving something specific to keep in your mind.
In summary, “Purge” is a classic GODFLESH album. It is released in digipack and vinyl format, where it even contains the lyrics in an insert booklet, something the band is not used to. For those of you who are fans of the band, you already know what to do…
