Since 2005, the multi-talented and always restless, Ihsahn (real name Vegard Sverre Tveitan) has tried to push his musical ideas forward as a solo artist, with very interesting collaborations. One of them is his collaboration with Jens Bogren of Fascination Street Studios and the online music production training program of the URM Academy.
The result of this collaboration was the release of three songs, two new ones and a cover of “Dom Andra” by the well-known (but only in Scandinavia) Swedish alternative rockers KENT. “The Observer” is a progressive song with some slightly angry vocals from Ihsahn reminiscent of OPETH with the help on vocals from keyboardist Øystein Aadland while “Contorted Monuments” moves to more classical English School metal progressive patterns. In the cover of “Dom Andra” the landscape will change, a familiar warm Swedish voice will pour out of the speakers and Jonas Renske of KATATONIA will sing to us with warmth “Var att vi blev som dom andra Vi blev som dom andra” the long-awaited hit of KENT.
This collaboration has been filmed and Jens Bogren, one of the world’s leading producers, was willing to share with comments and clarifications several aspects of how to make a proper and complete recording. Personally, I will not listen to this EP many times more…
